Be Natural!

I created this video slideshow to represent how beautiful locks are!

Before I even began my journey, I've been collecting photos of locks. They were and are my inspirations. Most of the photos are of Myspace friends that I've encountered that are just gorgeous. Hope you ladies don't mind that I included you (smile); can you blame me?

Enjoy and let me know what you think!

Curly Locks..

In response to all of the questions on how I achieved the curly lock look, I found the following video tutorial from youtube. I will say that the person that did my curly locks used mostly blue rods. Then we used gray and white at the top since they are slightly bigger to have a looser curl on the top. My loctician also did all of the rollers in the same direction so that I would have a uniform curl.

This video talks about having looser curls, so the person performing the tutorial used larger rod curls, but it's the same process no matter the size of curl you'd like to have as an end result. Simply choose the size curler that corresponds and follow these directions.

My curls have fallen very nicely and I've had them for about 4wks now. I'm about to wash them out, but I'll take a few pix before doing so, so you can see how well they lasted. I'm not sure if I totally agree with the person doing the tutorial that you MUST wrap your locks at night to protect this style. I don't, but I think it's all a matter of your locks and your texture of hair. Another factor may be the maturity of your locks as well.

Hope this helps ladies...

Gaymonn is taking over...

Be afraid, be VERY afraid!!!

I have finally identified who Gaymonn is. He's a stylist and "personality", well isn't that the understatement of the double oh 7 (2007 in layman's terms.. lol)!

I know there are some FIERCE drag queens out there that can dress the hell out of a woman, so as wild as he looks, I'm sure he can dress a woman! This just shows that he embraces being a woman, although he's not one himself or not, who knows! I'm just trying to find some sanity in the madness, ok!

I had to share more photos and some videos I found of him.

Enjoy...

Strength, Courage, & Wisdom

I don't know if many of you remember a series that MTV used to have called Music in High Places. They would take a popular singer of the time and take them to some beautiful, remote part of the world and record their experiences and them performing their music unplugged in that setting. If you missed this show and want to see some of the performances, you can find quite a few on Youtube.

My favorite episode was with India Arie in Bahia, Brazil. At the time, she hadn't achieved any fame or real visibility, but I was already in love with her after hearing her music, so I made sure to watch this. I have since purchased the DVD and if you are an India Arie fan, it's a must have in your collection, believe me!!!

Here's one of the performances from that DVD. I love all of them, but this song is special to me because it resonates with me and at the time it came out, I needed to hear these words to recognize my own strength, courage, and wisdom and everyone needs a reminder every now and then, no?

Enjoy...

Kevin Michael

I've just discovered this new artist named Kevin Michael. He did a collabo with my boy Wyclef, so that's how I discovered him since I always keep an eye out for any artist Wyclef works with (Ayietienne all tha way!! lol)!

You can check him out via his Myspace page or check out his website directly. I'm feeling this little mixed boy's flavor, so I thought I'd share a few of his videos with you as well.

The first is the track he did with Wyclef, called 'Difference', which has a reggae feel to it that I'm really loving, followed by the acoustic version that he did with Akil Dasan. And then there's 'Vicki Secrets' which is a hot little song.

Tell me what you think, k!

November Lock Updates..

So, it's that time again!! My girlfriend Vicki took some update shots of me today and here are some of the shots. Just click on them to see the enlarged photo.

If you'd like to take a look at all of them, check out my November updates in my fotki photo-journal album. I've been documenting my locking journey from day one, like so many other women on that site. It's wonderful to see comments that my locks are inspiring others since I too was inspired by viewing the photo-journals of others that inspired me to lock!

Ciao...

November Locked Beauty of the Month: Zahra

The 2007 Miss Jamaica, Zahra Redwood. I recently learned about Ms. Redwood and was impressed by what I found. If you're unfamiliar with her as I was, feel free to read this article about her.

She is beautiful and I'm sure she's made the Rastafarians proud by having one of their own finally representing Jamaica in such a venue.

Sak Pase

Since I'm feeling like some good music this morning, I thought I'd also post some Haitian Hip-Hop by The Welfare Poets called 'Sak Pase', which means, 'what's up or what's happening' in creole, which is the French dialect that Haitians speak. It's a commonly used greeting among Haitians, so feel free to say hello in this way when you encounter a Haitian (smile).

Enjoy the music....

Maxwell

Sooooo, I've been missing Maxwell's presence on the music scene. I've been following his Myspace page because it's been promising that he'd be releasing the first of a trilogy project called 'Black Summer's Night' this year. One album is to be released per year for the next three years. I am sooooo looking forward to it as I'm sure most are.

I reached out to Maxwell once via his page and had a conversation with him about his Haitian heritage. It had been rumored that he is half Haitian and half Puerto Rican, but he'd never confirmed it, so I sent him a message and asked about it. He confirmed that his mother was Haitian, but abandoned him at a very young age and it's a painful subject for him, so he doesn't speak of it often. I was honored when he told me that my asking him about him could be something that lead to a healing process for him. I told him that Haitians would embrace him as one of our own and that he could learn about his history which might make him feel closer to his mother. The experience touched me because he said that the creator must have sent me to him. It made me feel closer to him as an artist, as you'd imagine.

I've been watching his page very closely and he's finally posted a snippet of one of his new songs, so check out his page to hear it. He's cut off his gorgeous fro, but he's still gorgeous as ever. Can't wait for him to go on tour again. He's one of the best performers I've ever seen live, bar none!!

This made me think of some of his music that I've loved over the years, so I've posted the video for 'Get to know you' since I love this song so much.
